  • Execution of trades on behalf of the investors on the exchanges of which we are a member.
  • Issuance of contract notes for every executed trade.
  • Issuance of intimations regarding margin due payments.
  • Facilitating the execution of early pay-in obligation instructions.
  • Settlement of client funds as per the running account preference recorded by the client.
  • Intimation of securities and funds balance at the prescribed intervals.
  • Issuance of the retention statement of funds and securities.
  • Risk profiling of clients and communication of the associated risks.
  • Providing for, and co-ordinating, the redressal of investor grievances.

Rights of Investors

  • Ask for and receive information from the stock broker about the work history and background of the person handling your account, as well as information about the firm itself.
  • Receive complete information about the risks, obligations and costs of any investment before investing.
  • Receive recommendations consistent with your financial needs and investment objectives.
  • Receive a copy of all completed account forms and the Unique Client Code allotted to you.
  • Receive account statements that are accurate and understandable.
  • Understand the terms and conditions of the transactions you undertake.
  • Access your funds in a timely manner and receive information about any restrictions or limitations on that access.
  • Receive complete information about maintenance or service charges.
  • Be treated in a fair, ethical and respectful manner.

DOs and DON’Ts for Investors

DOs

  • Read all the documents and conditions being agreed before signing the account opening form.
  • Receive a copy of the KYC, a copy of the account opening documents and the Unique Client Code.
  • Read the product and operational framework and the timelines related to the various trading, clearing and settlement processes.
  • Provide complete and correct information, KYC and details to the stock broker, and provide only genuine documents as proof.
  • Always keep your contact details — mobile number and email ID — updated with the stock broker.
  • Register your own mobile number and email ID in your trading, demat and bank accounts so that you receive alerts directly.
  • Regularly check the messages sent by the exchanges regarding funds and securities balances, and report any discrepancy immediately.
  • Trade only through registered stock brokers of the exchange, and verify the registration from the exchange website.
  • Pay the required margins in time, and only by cheque or electronic transfer from your own bank account.
  • Deliver the securities in case of a sale within one working day.
  • Verify the details of trades, contract notes and the statement of account, and approach the stock broker in case of any discrepancy.
  • Keep yourself updated with the rules, regulations and circulars issued by the regulator and the exchanges.

DON’Ts

  • Do not deal with unregistered stock brokers or unregistered intermediaries.
  • Do not forget to strike off blanks in your account opening and KYC documents, and do not submit an incomplete form.
  • Do not forget to inform any change in the information linked to your trading account.
  • Do not transfer funds, for the purpose of trading, to anyone other than the stock broker. No payment should be made in the name of an employee of the stock broker.
  • Do not ignore any email or SMS received from the exchanges for trades done by you — report immediately in case of any discrepancy.
  • Do not opt for digital contracts if you are not familiar with computers.
  • Do not share your trading password, OTP or PIN with anyone, including employees of the stock broker.
  • Do not fall prey to fixed or guaranteed return schemes, or to fraudsters sending emails and SMSs luring you to trade promising huge profits.
  • Do not follow herd mentality for investments — seek expert and professional advice.

Grievance Redressal Mechanism

Investors are requested to first raise the matter with the branch or dealer handling the account. If the complaint is not redressed to your satisfaction, you may escalate it to the relevant stock exchange, lodge it on the SEBI SCORES portal at scores.sebi.gov.in, or initiate online dispute resolution through the SMART ODR portal at smartodr.in. Complaints are redressed within 30 days of receipt.
